He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1995, followed by a general surgery residency specializing in pediatric surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Dr. Hernandez returned to Pharr in 2004. He currently serves on the Board of Managers and as Chief Compliance Officer at DHR Health. Dr. Hernandez is active in civic participation, and has served as a board member and in leadership positions for organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House, the Border Health PAC, and the Advocacy Alliance Center of Texas (ACCT). “I come from humble means, but I believe strongly that with every path we take, we choose it,” Dr. Hernandez said. “Everything that happens, it happens for a reason. You can use it as a strength, and it molds who you are.” Patients in his program can count on this belief to assist him in helping themselves as they venture out into the world that encompasses a healthier lifestyle. With the help of the tools available through this program, Dr. Hernandez can utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient weight loss.
